This spinoff is more like Game of Thrones than Dune
The prequel to the original Dune tells the story of how the Rossak Brotherhood evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is from one called “Mentats of Dune.” The three books intertwine the evolution of the Brotherhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Druids. It’s referenced in AniMat’s Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020).
This is a great spin-off of a beloved film franchise
Plus, Dune: The Prophecy is everything I expected it to be, and more. I should start by saying that I’ve never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune movies that came out in the last year, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
I love them both, so I had high hopes for this series
Those two movies (especially Dune: Part II) are two of my favorite movies I’ve seen in the last year. Dune: Prophecy is a series that takes place 10,000 years before the start of the Dune movies and is about how the Harkonnen sisters started the Bene Gesserit as a way to fight against forces that threaten the future of humanity. The show may be more like Game of Thrones than Dune, but either way… it’s a lot of fun.
You don’t have to have seen both Dune films to enjoy it, but you’ll definitely like it more if you have
The most important thing about this show is that it does exactly what it set out to do, which is deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit.
